Rockstar Games issues a statement regarding Grand Theft Auto V.[4]

We are very proud to officially announce that Grand Theft Auto V is in full development. Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created. A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California.

August 29, 2012

Rockstar Games confirms that Grand Theft Auto IV, The Lost and Damned, The Ballad of Gay Tony and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars are in the same universe as Grand Theft Auto V by confirming the existence of three universes.[7]

El Burro is referenced as he was also referenced in GTA 1, so it felt appropriate that he should cross "universes" - the "universes" are the worlds interpreted at different definitions, 2d, 3d and high definition, so we felt brands and radio / background characters would exist in both, but 3 dimensional characters would not. This is the logic (as far as it could be considered logical) behind it - so no, we don't believe any GTA3 characters could exist in the GTA4 universe.

Rockstar Games announce that the release of Grand Theft Auto V will be delayed until September 17, 2013.[23]

Dear all,

Today, we have an official release date to share with you: Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.
We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.
To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) update their website expanding their explanation for an M rating for Grand Theft Auto V.[62]

Rating Summary: In this open-world action game, players assume the role of three criminals whose storylines intersect within the fictional city of Los Santos. Players can switch between each character to follow his storyline, completing missions which often include criminal activities (e.g., stealing cars, executing heists, assassinating targets). Players use pistols, machine guns, sniper rifles, and explosives to kill various enemies (e.g., rival gang members); players also have the ability to shoot non-adversary civilians, though this may negatively affect players' progress as a penalty system triggers a broad police search. Blood-splatter effects occur frequently, and the game contains rare depictions of dismemberment. In one sequence, players are directed to use various instruments and means to extract information from a character; the sequence is intense and prolonged, and it involves some player interaction (i.e., responding to on-screen prompts). The game includes depictions of sexual material/activity: implied fellatio and masturbation; various sex acts that the player's character procures from a prostitute—while no nudity is depicted in these sequences, various sexual moaning sounds can be heard. Nudity is present, however, primarily in two settings: a topless lap dance in a strip club and a location that includes male cult members with exposed genitalia in a non-sexual context. Within the game, TV programs and radio ads contain instances of mature humor: myriad sex jokes; depictions of raw sewage and feces on a worker's body; a brief instance of necrophilia (no nudity is depicted). Some sequences within the larger game allow players to use narcotics (e.g., smoking from a bong, lighting a marijuana joint); cocaine use is also depicted. Players' character can, at various times, consume alcohol and drive while under the influence. The words “f**k,” “c*net,” and “n**ger” can be heard in the dialogue.

Bonus Outfits, Tattoos and More: Michael, Franklin Clinton and Trevor Phillips will receive a 20% discount in all stores across Los Santos & Blaine County and access to certain special items in either stores or their personal wardrobe. A free additional outfit (consisting of a shirt hoodie and jacket) will be given to each protagonist. Special Ability Boost: The special abilities each character possess will be triggered faster and will activate when the 'special ability bar' is full (based on the players actions). The boost means available in the Special and Collectors edition sees the bar fill up 25% faster. Michael's allows him to slow down time to shoot targets, Franklin's allows him to slow down time to drive around traffic and take high speed corners, and Trevor's allows him to to cause double damage to enemies and only half the damage when attacked. Stunt Plane Trials: Five unique checkpoint trials will be available.

Rockstar Games announce the introduction of hierarchies in the Social Club Crews, which will begin with the release of Grand Theft Auto Online. Each crew leader can assign a crew member to one of four tiers although all members will be automatically added to the Muscle tier until their rank is changed.[66]

• Commissioners: The Crew’s most trusted member(s) - that essential right-hand man or woman that the Leader relies on for Vice Presidential advisement and executive action. Commissioners have the power to manage and administrate all aspects of the Crew on behalf of the Leader, including the ability to promote members internally or invite new members in.

• Lieutenants: Made members with specific privileges to keep the Crew in check and hand out promotions or demotions amongst sub-ordinate ranks. Crew Representatives and the mob of Muscle would be wise to keep their Lieutenants (and above) sweet.
• Representatives: A tier of Crew members who have shown and proved their commitment to the clique - whether with ace performance in competitive modes, or just by rocking their Crew's emblem faithfully since day one. Crew Leaders can assign these special players as Representatives who will have basic permissions to aid recruitment efforts.
• Muscle: The rank-and-file mob of Crew members who are happy to play their position of causing some havoc Online, doing their Crew's emblem justice and fighting for its good name. Muscle-level members may not have nor want any administrative power but they're often the heart and soul of what makes your Crew fearsome. Ambitious Muscle who are looking to prove themselves to the Crew Leader and rise up the ranks may even prove a threat to their Crew superiors, if any are deemed to be slacking on their responsibilities or performance.

A History of GTA Online

On this peg

Corollaries and Implication

I have suggested the tip to refer to GTA On line’s history because it may help you understand why some components of the game were designed as they are and thus make better decisions on what to buy and what to do in the game. Here, I will list some significant events and updates happened to GTA Online as accurate as I can (because I started playing this game since 2018, I did not witness the events prior to that time); after that, I will also discuss some important take-aways and implications of those events

September 17: Although advertised as a separate title and mentioned in the same manner in-game, Grand Theft Auto V, what GTA Online is built on, was released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in select regions

October 1: GTA Online was launched

August 19: With the San Andreas Flight School Update, the Flight School, which had been available only in the Story Mode, was added to GTA Online, with a completely different set of courses

November 18: GTA V and GTA Online were released for PS4 and Xbox One. Rockstar called those releases the “Enhanced Edition”, as the game on these platforms had better video quality and additional features like first-person perspective and Director Mod

March 10: The Heists Update was released. Five Heists were added to GTA Online, each allowing players to do a series of missions that would award them significant amount of money upon completion of the last mission in the series. The Heists were designed to be done by a team of 2 (only for the first Heist) or 4 (for the rest) players

The Heists offer a very unique multiplayer gaming experience that is rarely found in other online games. There are still a lot of players doing those original Heists nowadays even though they were released very long ago, and Rockstar has added more Heists with higher payouts later o

April 14: The Enhanced Edition of GTA V and GTA Online were released on P

October 20: The Lowriders update was launched. It added Benny’s Original Motor Works, an auto shop not intended to replace the existing Los Santos Customs but specialized for more expensive modifications. A series of lowrider-themed Missions given by Lamar (which I personally call “Lamar Missions”) was also introduced with the update

December 15: With the Executives and Other Criminals update, players can register as a VIP, hire Bodyguards, and complete VIP Works together as an organization. The luxurious Galaxy Super Yacht was added in this update as well

June 7: The Further Adventures in Finance and Felony update was released, which gave players the option to purchase an Office and register as a CEO. Being a CEO, you have access to the Securer network where you can purchase Warehouses and start a Special Cargo business

Even today, years after this update, Special Cargo is still considered as one of the most rewarding activities to do in GTA Online: a whole Large Warehouse of cargo can give you $4.44M when sold during a Double Rewards even

October 4: The motorcycle-themed Bikers update was available. Besides VIP and CEO, players got the ability to form Motorcycle Clubs, which allows instantly summoning a motorcycle. Motorcycle Club Businesses were also added

In an MC Business, you obtain Supplies either via purchases or by stealing them without paying a price. Then, just let your workers, who came with the factory you bought for the Business, generate Products for you; you can do anything else when they convert Supplies to Products. Finally, when you get enough Products to sell, do a sell mission and collect the money

This is often categorized as a “passive business” because you don’t need to do anything while your investment is being transformed into revenue. In Special Cargo, you must actively involve yourself in transporting the Crates back to your Warehouse to convert the price you paid to buy them to the money you earn from a sale. In MC Businesses, once you buy Supplies, the only thing you need to do before a sale is to stay in the game and wait until your workers generate enough Product

December 13: The Import/Export update offered players a new kind of business, Vehicle Cargo, through the Securer network. Anyone wants to start a Vehicle Cargo business should own an Office and buy a Vehicle Warehouse. Players can source a vehicle via Securer, steal it, drive it back to their Vehicle Warehouse, then modify and sell it to make a profit. This activity involves lots of driving, and unlike Special Cargo and MC Businesses, it does not require investing an up-front cost for obtaining the goods to sell

June 13: The Gunrunning update was released. Bunkers, the properties for a new passive business of selling weapons, were introduced, allowing players to increase their earnings while they are doing other activities in GTA Online. Several weaponized vehicles, new Mk II variants of existing weapons, and a set of new weapon accessories were also added to the game

In my opinion, Gunrunning is the best passive business. There are only 6 kinds of Bunker sell missions, none of which is extremely hard; the hourly profit of a Bunker is the highest among all passive businesses in GTA Online

August 29: In the Smuggler’s Run update, Hangars were introduced as both storage for the player’s personal aircraft and bases for the Air Freight Cargo business, which is similar to Special Cargo but has its missions oriented to aircraft. This update also featured a wide array of new planes and helicopters available for purchase

December 12: The Doomsday Heist update was available. Three new Doomsday Heists, presented in a new theme and story line, and offered with better payouts than the original Heists, were added to the game. The Doomsday Heists worked similarly as the original Heists, but they can be completed by any group of 2, 3, or 4 players. Also, as a continuation of the Gunrunning update, more weaponized vehicles and extra Mk II weapons became available

July 24: The After-Hours update added Nightclubs to the game. Nightclubs provide two separate businesses to players: the Nightclub Warehouse, which is yet another passive business, and the Nightclub itself, also a passive business that grants just a small income. This update also included Pagasa Oppressor Mk II, the infamous flying motorcycle that can be customized with missiles

There are two unique things about the Nightclub Warehouse that differentiate it from MC Businesses and the Bunke

The only input required to earn money from it is completing the sale mission. You don’t even need to purchase supplies to get products in your Warehouse; your technicians will accrue goods for you

You will always get only one vehicle for the delivery job. For other businesses, if you have a lot of goods to sell, you might need to operate multiple vehicles to complete the delivery; in Nightclub sales, you always get a single vehicle, though its size might vary depending on your stock

The types of Goods accrued by the technicians in your Nightclub Warehouse depend on what properties you have already owned. The more businesses you operate, the more products your technicians can accumulate in the Warehouse

July 23: The long-awaited The Diamond Casino & Resort update was finally released. The original Vinewood Casino near the Vinewood Racetrack was renovated and changed to The Diamond Casino & Resort. The new casino welcomed players with table games, slot machines, horse racing, and a purchasable Penthouse. Six Casino Missions with a story line were also added

December 12: As a continuation of the story line in the Casino Missions, The Diamond Casino Heist update added a new Heist targeting the casino’s vault. The form of the Casino Heist is different from the original Heists and the Doomsday Heists but rather similar to Heists in the Story Mode, where the Heist Leader would choose the approach and hire several NPCs as crew members. Furthermore, except the Heist Finale, all Missions of the Heist can be done by a single person

August 11: The Los Santos Summer Special update brought a set of new jobs, events, vehicles and cosmetic items to GTA Online. The Yacht was given a new role of giving access to six new A Superyacht Life Missions that featured a brief story line

December 15: The Cayo Perico Heist update was released. The Cayo Perico Heist is the first Heist in GTA Online that can be completed entirely by a single player, including the Finale. With easy Prep Missions and high payout, The Cayo Perico Heist has been recognized as the fastest and most hassle-free way for money grinding

February 28: A GTA Online player, t0st, published an article documenting his research on the infamous long loading times issue of GTA Online on PC. He determined that the causes of long loading times were inefficient parsing of game data files and redundant item duplication checks, and his experiments on reducing the loading time supported his hypothesis. On his own machine, t0st observed a decrease in loading time from about 6 minutes to less than 2 minutes. This result shocked the GTA Online community because nobody could imagine that the endless loading process could be fixed so easily and effectively like this. By applying the fixes proposed by t0st, other players were also able to reproduce similarly significant loading speed-up

March 16: Rockstar had affirmed t0st’s findings on long loading times and released an update addressing the issue, which had existed in GTA Online on PC for almost 6 years. Rockstar also awarded t0st with $10,000 for his contribution

Corollaries and

Don’t bother getting Gold Medals in the Flight School of GTA Online until you have gained some good flying skills, possibly by completing the Flight School courses in the Story Mode first. Since GTA On line’s Flight School was added about one year after the game’s release, and the Story Mode’s Flight School was already teaching basic flying controls, Rockstar designed the courses in GTA Online to be challenges for proficient pilots rather than tutorials for novice cadets

The Lamar Missions is not a part of the GTA Online Tutorial, nor are they a continuation of it. So, please don’t regard them as something you must or should do and merrily join and play them after you have completed the GTA Online Tutorial

In general, a trend towards more relaxed design and mechanism can be observed in Heists of GTA Online. The bulk of the original Heists require four players, which is strict for people without reliable teammates. Then, for The Doomsday Heists, Rockstar improved the principle of design of the missions so that only two players are mandatory for Setups and Finales. For both original Heists and The Doomsday Heists, the missions require the team to follow a fixed set of objectives, and failure to comply with some restrictions (e.g., remain undetected) halts the mission. The Diamond Casino Heist relaxes the requirements in number of players further so the Finale is the only part that needs more than one player, and the Finale can still continue if the crew is spotted by the enemy or breaks the disguise. The Cayo Perico Heist does not require multiple players at all and is thus more friendly to lone-wolf player

Every set of Heists has some requirements to be unlocked, but the original Heists’ prerequisites are easier to satisfy. They only require reaching Rank 12 (which is easy) and owning a high-end Apartment (which can be purchased with as little as $200,000). The Doomsday Heists, The Diamond Casino Heist and The Cayo Perico Heist all require being a VIP, CEO, or MC President, and a specialized property whose price starts from $1.2

The original Heists were released in March 2015, months before Rockstar added VIP as the first type of organizations a player can register. Since CEOs and MCs were introduced in 2016, every new major activity added to GTA Online required being a VIP, CEO, or MC President, including The Doomsday Heists, The Diamond Casino Heist, and The Cayo Perico Heis

Inflation is also a thing in GTA Online: prices of new vehicles and clothing items have skyrocketed update by update, and so are the properties’ prices: you need to pay at least 6 times more for a property that unlocks newer Heists than the cheapest high-end Apartment for the original Heist

If you want to exploit the Nightclub Warehouse, make sure you have owned most of the following

A Bunk

A Hangar, or at least one Special Cargo Warehouse

Some MC Businesses, preferably a Cocaine Lockup, a Meth Lab, and a Cash Facto

After Hours, the update that added Nightclubs, were released after all of those properties had been added to GTA Online. The Nightclub Warehouse was mainly intended to let veteran players benefit from their existing businesses by collecting extra passive income. If you don’t own any of the properties above, the Nightclub Warehouse will not function at al

Please do not consider buying the Yacht and completing A Superyacht Life missions as an investment. The payouts of those missions are not even comparable to the cost of the cheapest financing option of the Yacht. A possible reason for Rockstar to add those missions in 2020 was to make the Yacht a little bit useful to players who had already owned it for years but might have forgotten its existence. After all, the Galaxy Super Yacht had been in GTA Online since late 2015. The missions were never intended to be a way of grinding like Heist

This article primarily covers GTA Online. If you are specifically looking for information about GTA 5 story DLC, we have a FAQ on that topic here.

One of the pillars of GTA Online journalism is speculation about upcoming DLCs. Whenever Rockstar drops an update, it causes some serious waves in both the GTA V community and in the gaming press.

Rockstar has been releasing free DLC packs ever since GTA 5 first launched way back in 2013 and sorting through it all for someone who jumped on the bandwagon at a later date (or on a newer platform) might be something of a daunting task.

Well, let us help you! Below, you will find a full and complete list of all GTA Online DLCs & Updates in chronological order from newest to oldest, each of them linking to their respective article providing detailed information. The only place you'll find a more extensive listing of the latest updates is from Rockstar Support ;).

GTA Online: The Contract - Shifting attention to story driven, single player content within Online, The Contract brings back Franklin Clinton and Dr. Dre in a new narratively focused adventure. Players join Franklin's agency specializing in solving delicate problems for the elite, hang out with Dre in his studio and take on a bunch of contracts to up the company's rep. There's also plenty of standard DLC fluff here - clothes, cars, weapons. Rockstar also revealed that this is just the first chapter of our cooperative adventures with Franklin, and The Contract introduces a format we'll see repeatedly in future content.

GTA Online: Los Santos Tuners - A major update bringing a new peaceful car meet location to Cypress Flats, LS Car Meet, featuring a Test Track and a bunch of vendors accessible to players paying for a membership. The Test Track allows players to win a new car each week while trying out upcoming drip-feed vehicle DLC, and membership benefits also include the chance to buy a new Auto Shop property and engage in complex multi-part robbery Contracts. Los Santos Tuners also added 10 new cars to GTA Online.

GTA Online the Cayo Perico Heist - The biggest update ever to hit GTA Online, The Cayo Perico Heist introduced a new landmass for the very first time, alongside an ambitious new heist with optional setups and a solo mode. Alongside the titular caper, The Music Locker opened beneath the Diamond featuring new resident DJs, a bunch of new vehicles and clothing items were added to the game and players could purchase a refurbished nuclear submarine.

GTA Online Los Santos Summer Special - Large summer update bringing 15 new vehicles, 6 new co-op missions that can be launched from yachts and a number of expansions to existing activities, including an Open Wheel Race Creator.

GTA Online Gerald's Last Play - This update added 6 new Contact Missions to the game.

GTA Online Open Wheel Races - This DLC added Formula 1 style races to the game, including 7 tracks and 2 new vehicles with unique upgrade options.

GTA Online: The Diamond Casino Heist - Continuing the story of the Diamond Casino, players team up with Lester to rob its vault. A new Arcade business was made available alongside a planning Hideout, as well as 12 vehicles and new side activities. fruit Radio was added to the game in this DLC.

GTA Online: Diamond Casino & Resort - The Diamond Casino brought with it plenty of opportunities to lose money, and a few to win some as well. Players could purchase personal penthouses, complete 5 narrative missions and a number of Casino Work missions. 6 vehicles were added to the game.

GTA Online: Arena War - Arena War came after a long period without DLC primarily due to the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. The update introduced the Maze Bank Arena bringing 7 new game modes, Career progression and 12 new vehicles to the game. These can be upgraded and customized at the Arena Workshop.

GTA Online: After Hours - After Hours brought the biggest change to the way money is made in GTA Online ever since businesses were introduced by Further Adventures in Finance and Felony. With the consolidated warehouse, businesses turned into sources of passive income. Beyond this, the new nightclub business was added alongside 7 new vehicles. Old fan-favorite characters Gay Tony and Laslow also made their return.

GTA Online: Southern San Andreas Super Sport Series - A smaller update adding a new racing mode, Horting Circuit, with 10 available tracks as well as a large vehicle roster, bringing 13 new rides to GTA Online.

GTA Online: Festive Surprise 2017 - A return of the festive content seen in the previous holiday DLCs, with snowfall occurring in-game during Christmas and New Year's Eve.

GTA Online: The Doomsday Heist - GTA On line's biggest DLC ever brought a new heist to the game for the first time since 2015, alongside a huge list of other content. Players can buy new Facilities which, besides unlocking the new missions, would grant access to the Avenger, a flying HQ, strike teams and an orbital cannon. The Doomsday Heist brought end-game content to the game for the first time, one of the biggest vehicles drops, 10 more outfit slots, a new radio station and new achievements.

GTA Online: Transform Races - Yet another riff on stunt races, this DLC added a new mechanic where driving over certain checkpoints would change your vehicle to one altogether different in a puff of smoke. Players would go from cars to planes to boats across a wide selection of tracks.

GTA Online: Smuggler's Run - A callback to an older Rockstar IP in name only, Smuggler's Run refocused the game on air superiority by adding a new mission specific property, hangars, as well as several planes and other aerial vehicles. Smuggling missions saw players sourcing contraband items, taking them back to their hangars, then going on sell missions. It was followed by a large about of weekly vehicle releases tied into the theme of the update.

GTA Online: Gunrunning - 2017's biggest DLC added a whole new world of crime to Southern San Andreas. Players can go full super villain with new Bunker HQs from where they can launch illicit weapon trading missions and research new weapon attachments and upgrades. With the massive Mobile Operations Center and weaponized vehicles, Gunrunning takes the action to the road. New character customization options finally cater to the military enthusiast niche as well.

GTA Online Cunning Stunts: Special Vehicle Circuit - This follows up to 2016's massively popular Cunning Stunts took the original concept and mixed in some of Import/Export's special vehicles. 20 new tracks were added to the game designed around the abilities of either the Rocket Voltic, The Blazer Aqua or the Rainer 2000. The tracks were joined by the Progen GP1 classic supercar and the removal of heist-completion requirements for a number of vehicles such as the Hydra and the HVY Insurgent.

GTA Online Import/Export - Import/Export continued the long-running CEO series of updates, this time returning to the roots of the franchise by once again placing the emphasis on the stealing of vehicles. This new mechanic was joined by mammoth 60-slot garages, a whole lot of vehicles and other content, including a host of unique, "special vehicles" which all had some kind of special ability - or multiple. These included cars with jet-engines strapped to their rear, amphibious buggies and KITT from Knight Rider, among other. That said, the actual import and export missions were the focal point of the DLC, and it gave us the newest most lucrative activity in the game, allowing players to make a ton of cash in relatively short amounts of time when done right.

GTA Online Halloween 2016 - Though it added the all-new Sanctus bike, the 2016 Halloween DLC was mostly a retread of last year's Halloween Surprise. At least the Franken Strange and Lurcher went back on sale!

GTA Online: Deadline - Deadline added the Nagasaki Shotaro to the game, which was a clear homage to Tron, alongside the Deadline Adversary Mode, which is similar to light cycle battles from the same film.

GTA Online: Bikers - Finally answering the most popular community request, Rockstar added a full-fledged biker themed update to the game. Bringing in 13 new bikes, clubhouses, new clothing items, clandestine businesses and much more, Bikers made quite the splash when it launched. What's better, Rockstar has been updating it with small vehicle batches since.

GTA Online Stunt Race Creator - Originally intended to be part of Cunning Stunts, the Stunt Race Creator was postponed. Released pretty soon after Cunning Stunts, the new update allowed players access to the multitude of new props used by the stunt races via the creator, enabling them to craft their own death-trap-circuits.

GTA Online: Cunning Stunts - One of the best received updates the game has ever been expanded with, Cunning Stunts added the now beloved stunt races, as well as an absolute massive library of vehicles. Cunning Stunts also saw the addition of Premium Races, allowing the best drivers in Los Santos to risk more for a bigger prize.

GTA Online: Further Adventures in Finance and Felony - A massive update which shook up the standard GTA Online gameplay form that has cemented since Executives was released. Adding the all-new crate missions, Finance and Felony gave players a reasonably lucrative alternative to heisting, as well as a slew of new vehicles, clothing and more. Possibly the best addition is the new weapon locker, which somewhat alleviates the game's trouble with the weapon wheel.

GTA Online Lowriders: Custom Classics - A relatively small DLC update which added three new vehicles to Benny's Original Motorworks, a host of character customization options, two new weapons and the Sumo Adversary Mode.

GTA Online Be My Valentine DLC - Celebrating Valentine's Day, this update brought back the good old Roosvelt as well as an updated version. The DLC also added new clothing options and a new Adversary Mode titled Till Death Do Us Part. The Goosenberg Sweeper also made a return.

GTA Online Drop Zone January 2016 Update - A minor update, this DLC added two vehicles to Benny's Original Motorworks and a new Adversary Mode.

GTA Online Festive Surprise 2015 DLC - Celebrating Christmas has become something of a tradition in GTA Online - Fireworks, Snow, a new car and several new customization items.

GTA Online Executives and Other Criminals - The Executives update is one of the largest ever seen in GTA Online, introducing the deep and layered VIP and Bodyguard system. Several new weapons and vehicles were also added, along with the end-game Super yachts.

GTA Online Halloween Surprise DLC - This spooky update added an all-new Adversary Mode, two cars, a weapons and new masks.

GTA Online Lowriders - A large update adding a new contact to GTA Online providing missions as well as Benny's Original Motorworks, a new car shop where you can customize lowrider vehicles. New weapons and clothing items were also introduced.

GTA Online Free mode Events - A significant update bringing major changes to the underlying mechanics of GTA Online by wiping away job lobbies and loading screens. It also added a massive amount of new event types.

GTA Online Ill-Gotten Gains Part 1 & Part 2 - An end-game update focusing on expensive new customization items, weapons and vehicles. It is notorious for adding a gold-plated jet which costs 10 million in $GTA.

GTA Online Heists Update - One of, if not the, largest update GTA Online has seen. Adding a massive number of vehicles and, more importantly, the difficult but lucrative heist missions to the game.

GTA Online Festive Surprise DLC - The second Christmas themed update brought snow to Los Santos, as well as a handful of clothes, weapons and vehicles.

GTA Online Last Team Standing Update - As the name suggests, this update added the LTS game mode to GTA Online alongside two weapons and three vehicles.

GTA Online San Andreas Flight School Update - This DLC added four new vehicles to the game, as well as flag parachutes and the Flight School missions, allowing players to train as crack pilots.

GTA Online Independence Day Special DLC - Following the theme of 'MURICA, this update added the Musket weapon, a Monster Truck, a bike, rural safehouses and massive amount of new clothing for a limited time. It was re-introduced in 2015.

GTA Online I'm Not a Hipster Update - This DLC added two new weapons, a whopping 7 new cars and a dozen new missions. New customization options go without saying.

GTA Online High Life Update - Another update focusing on luxury and riches, High Life adds a few new vehicles, a new weapon, and a handful of clothes and apartments - as well as new missions with which to earn cash for buying all that.

GTA Online Business Update - A minor update adding some new vehicles, weapons and customization items with a common formal theme.

GTA Online Valentine's Day Massacre Special DLC - Going for a retro gangster look, this DLC adds retro clothing, the Roosevelt old timer and the Sweeper, GTA's take on the Tommy Gun.

GTA Online Holiday Gifts DLC - The first Christmas DLC, adding festive clothes and snow.

GTA Online Capture Update - This DLC brought the capture game mode to GTA Online.

GTA Online Content Creator Update - The extremely versatile Content Creator, which allows players to build their own missions in GTA Online, was added alongside a handful of bugfixes in this update.

GTA Online Beach Bum Update - The first content update to ever grace GTA Online, Beach Bum added several new vehicles, two new weapons, and countless new customization items and jobs to the game.

Now that's a lot of free DLC, so the next time you see some disgruntled players accuse Rockstar of greed, feel free to link them to this page.

We will continue to update it as new DLC is release for GTA Online.

Evolution Of the GTA Franchise

If you are a hard-core gaming fan, you've likely played at least one of the Grand Theft Auto games. If a criminal lifestyle is your thing, GTA has it all: stealing cars, assassinations, or even mass murder

This critically acclaimed franchise has a huge following, yet is infamous with parents for its violent, racial, and sexual content. In all the titles, the player assumes the role of a criminal in an open-world fictitious city in America. Jobs and missions are completed, which include stealing, mugging, assassinations and more. Later versions of the game ascended to more intricate missions, even stealing an underwater nuclear missal

However, in the early days, the game had a very different fee

Expansions and DLCs: Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 (1999), Grand Theft Auto: London 1961 (1999

The inaugural version of the franchise was originally released for Windows based PCs and MS DOS in October 1997 and was later ported to PlayStation and the Game Boy Color. GTA 1 is a two-dimensional setting featuring a top-down bird's eye view camera

Players play the role of a criminal and have to complete jobs involving theft, robbery and assault. New missions are acquired by answering public telephones in the game world. GTA 1 game play is based on points, with a certain number of points needed to complete levels. Points can be used as currency to purchase various items available in the game. Missions become more difficult as the game progresses, but players who are stuck can use a variety of cheats to surpass challenging areas. The game was slated to be released as Grand Theft Auto 64 for the Nintendo 64 platform, but never we

After the success of GTA 1, a sequel was a natural move and GTA 2 was born. Gameplay style was similar to GTA 1 in that this was also a top-down, bird's eye view camera and a two-dimensional action-adventure game. The PC version of the game allowed players to play in two different modes called Noon and Dusk. The quality of graphics improved in Dusk mod

Rockstar kept the same mission format as in the original GTA 1. Players answer public telephones in order to receive missions from crime bosses residing in Anywhere City, the setting of the game. This entry of the series also came with 4 multiplayer modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Race, and Tag. GTA 2 was released on PlayStation, Dreamcast, Microsoft Windows, and Game Boy Colo

This game represents the revolutionary, franchise-defining entry in the GTA series. GTA 3 was released on October 22, 2001 and was the first game in the series to feature a 3rd person POV gameplay. Players see the new and enhanced open world through an over-the-shoulder camera

Grand Theft Auto 3 also marked the significance of returning to Liberty City, featured in the original GTA 1. Players take on the role of Claude, a criminal who is shot by his girlfriend during a bank robbery and subsequently arrested by police, convicted, and sentenced to prison. However, while transferring to jail, Claude and another prisoner escape and make their way to a safe house, where he's introduced to a crime boss and begins his quest for revenge

As the main character commits crimes, the "wanted level" accumulates which makes increasingly aggressive law enforcement officers chase you until you're caught or somehow evade capture. The game was the first in the series to be built on a 3D game engine. Upon release it quickly became a fan favorite and was praised by numerous critics. Grand Theft Auto III is still popular today and available across various platforms such as Microsoft Windows PCs, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles. It has since been released for Mac OS, Android, and iOS

The sixth GTA game of the franchise was the second title to use a 3D graphics engine. Vice City is a fictional city based on Miami. After a drug deal goes wrong, mafia hit man Tommy Vernetti goes out for revenge. Like the previous games, players have freedom to travel around the open world of Vice Cit

As the story progresses, players complete main and side missions to unlock more playable areas. Graphics and gameplay are almost the same as the previous entry of the series. The story of Vice City is set 15 years prior to the events of GTA III and include some of the same NPCs in the game. Like the other games in the franchise, it has a variety of transportation options: cars, motorcycles, boats, and helicopter

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas used essentially the same graphics engine as the previous two titles of the GTA III era. Using a massive open-world game map, it is set in the state of San Andreas which is loosely based on the states of California and Nevada. Most of the gameplay takes place across three cities: Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas (which are based on Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas respectively

The story revolves around CJ (Carl Johnson), who was framed for murder by corrupt cops. CJ completes missions for these cops to maintain his freedom. GTA San Andreas stylistically follows its predecessors in terms of gameplay but introduces role-playing concepts. The player can completely change their look and has to eat and exercise to improve their physique. The title had its share of controversy due to a mod called "Hot Coffee." This mod unlocks sexually explicit content in the game. For that, it was banished from many store shelves, and it's rating also changed from Mature to AO (Adult Only

GTA IV marked the introduction of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) to the series. The RAGE platform elevated gameplay to new heights of realism and rendered the urban setting in more detail than GTA III. RAGE has been used in a number of titles, such as GTA 5 and the Red Dead Redemption series

Players once again return to the setting of Liberty City as the immigrant with big dreams -- this time as Niko Belic. GTA IV contains main missions, as well as side missions to complete

Players travel Liberty City (based on New York) by vehicle or by foot. In combat, the player can use a variety of melee weapons. GTA IV also contains a first person POV mode, a first in the series. Players can use this mode while driving vehicle

The game contains a multiplayer mode for up to 32 players, including Death Match and street race

GTA V is the fifteenth release of the series and is the most graphically advanced game of its era. It uses the Rockstar's RAGE graphics engine, and offers an enormous game environment simulating southern California with improved AI, dense traffic, a wide variety of air, land, and sea vehicles, weather effects, and mor

GTA V contains the same open world design with the option of using either the first- or third-person camera POV. Like previous titles, players unlock different parts of the map by making progress in missions. The game revolves around three main protagonists: Michael De Santa, Trevor Philips and Franklin Clinton. Each character has a special ability which is improved by gaining experience points. Once there is enough progress in the story, the player can change character

The graphically sensational game featured many environments, all rendered in beautiful detail. Not just the typical urban scenery was featured, but also tall mountains, serene beaches, oceans, wilderness, strip malls, and luxury store

GTA V was a smash hit, selling $800M in the first day alone. It is the third most popular video game of all-time, selling over 110 million copies as of 201

GTA 5 was the magnum opus of Rockstar Games and the GTA franchise. It has remained relevant for almost a decade, and there hasn't been a sequel yet.

The GTA franchise is widely known as one of the most popular video game series ever. There are only a few active gamers who have never played a GTA title. While most of their games have achieved an impressive level of success, GTA 5 is by far the most successful.

It shattered all previous sales records and established itself as Rockstar's most popular product. GTA Online, its multiplayer counterpart, was even more profitable, and it is still being played today.

How old is GTA 5? Observing the history of the game

As with any significant games made by Rockstar, fans were highly hyped for the release of GTA 5. This series generates more buzz than any other in the gaming industry. The game was released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 17, 2013, and it has been eight years since then.

GTA 5 was then ported for the PS4 and Xbox One, with better features and graphics. Dubbed the Enhanced Edition, it also came to Windows PCs in 2015. Fans are awaiting another relaunch, which is being called the Enhanced and Expanded Edition. Coming out for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, it has been delayed to March 2022.

Throughout these years, the one thing that has shined through and brought insane profits is GTA Online. It receives regular updates and is played by a massive, ever-increasing player base. The base game also received a few updates in its early years. These stopped in 2015 with the Ill-Gotten Gains Part 2 update.

The majority of these updates added new content, such as new weapons and vehicles. Unlike GTA Online, the single-player game never received new story missions or similar DLCs.

The Future of GTA 5

As the first trailer for the upcoming re-release came out, fans were left extremely disappointed. The alike/dislike ratio on the video itself is evidence of their discontentment. This isn't just because Rockstar and Take-Two are still milking the eight-year-old game.

The Great Confusion

From plot holes to retcons, nobody really quite understands the overall timeline of GTA V and it's evolving GTA Online world. Originally set in early 2013, six months before the single player story-mode, GTA Online has grown and changed with new characters, vehicles, and even buildings joining the mix. The confusion really began during a mission in the Gunrunning update, in which Agent 14 states that "It's 2017" - Four years after the game was supposedly set

Music in GTA V

In Grand Theft Auto V, instead of just having radio stations, many missions are scored, with specific music tracks played at specific moments in order to build atmosphere and tension. However, radio stations continue to exist.

We though could do something interesting if we scored missions in GTA. Obviously, we didn't want to lose radio stations, so we thought we'd do both. Exactly how we're going to balance between the two we're not entirely sure yet – we're still trying to figure that out. But we have some very cool people doing the score, different people, who will work in the same stem-based system that we used in the other games".

Original Soundtrack

The original soundtrack in GTA V was composed by the electronic group Tangerine Dream, the composer Woody Jackson, and the rappers and producers The Alchemist and Oh No and was then mixed by DJ Shadow.

GTA V is the first game in the series that features a dynamic score, adapting to the player's progress and situation in-game. Max Payne 3, Rockstar's last major release before GTA V, already used the same system, where every track is decomposed in several different parts that are live-mixed by the computer in-game in order to reflect the player's advancement.

The original soundtrack was commercially released as part two of The Music of Grand Theft Auto V, while part one and three mostly contained songs heard on the radio stations.

Grand Theft Auto Online

Grand Theft Auto Online is an online multiplayer action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on 1 October 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, [a] 18 November 2014 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and 14 April 2015 for Microsoft Windows; PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are scheduled for March 2022. The game is the online component of Grand Theft Auto V. Set within the fictional state of San Andreas (based on Southern California), Grand Theft Auto Online allows up to 30 players[b] to explore its open world environment and engage in cooperative or competitive game matches.

Grand Theft Auto Online

Grand Theft Auto Online.jpg

The open-world design lets players freely roam San Andreas, which includes an open countryside and the fictional city of Los Santos (based on Los Angeles). Players control a customizable silent protagonist in their journey to become a powerful criminal, slowly building an empire as they complete increasingly difficult tasks. Set both months before and years after the single-player campaign, [c] Grand Theft Auto Online comprises cooperative missions where multiple players complete tasks to advance the narrative. The game also features numerous side missions and events, including the more advanced "Heists", and various businesses that players can purchase and manage to produce income.

Developed in tandem with the single-player mode, Grand Theft Auto Online was conceived as a separate experience to be played in a continually evolving world. At launch, it suffered widespread technical issues resulting in the inability to play missions and loss of character data. It initially polarized reviewers, being criticized for its lack of direction and repetitive missions, with praise particularly directed at the scope and open-ended gameplay. It won divided year-end accolades, ranging from Biggest Disappointment to Best Multiplayer, from several gaming publications. The game receives frequent free updates that further expand on the game modes and content, which has improved critical reception. The 2015 Heists update was especially well received by the critics.

Gameplay Edit

Developed in tandem with Grand Theft Auto V, Grand Theft Auto Online was conceived as a separate experience to be played in a continually evolving world.[3] Up to 30 players[b] freely roam across a re-creation of the single-player world and enter lobbies to complete jobs (story-driven competitive and cooperative modes).[4] The Content Creator toolset lets players create their own parameters for custom jobs, like racetracks and deathmatch weapon spawn points.[6] Players may band together in organized player teams called crews to complete jobs together. Rockstar Games Social Club extends crews formed in Max Payne 3's multiplayer mode to that of Grand Theft Auto Online. Players can create their own crews and join up to five total. Crews also have a hierarchy; crew leaders can change a member's role in said hierarchy. Crews win multiplayer matches to earn experience points and climb online leaderboards.[7]

In Grand Theft Auto Online, players create a new character specific to the online world, which shows on the screen's Switch Wheel alongside single-player characters Franklin, Michael, and Trevor.[8] The player-characters are designed by a genetics-related process.[9] Greater control is given to the character's clothes and hairstyles. The protagonist arrives in Los Santos by plane and is picked up by Lamar Davis, who gives the character a gun and a car. An hour-long tutorial introduces the player to the various game modes, driving, fighting, and game progression mechanics.[9] The story is not central in the multiplayer, though it initially serves as a prequel to the single-player story, where characters from the single-player are woven in. [9]

Similar to single-player, players can level up their character's attributes such as driving and stamina. Exclusive to GTA Online is a system of earning experience, usually by successful completion of activities. Accumulating enough experience to level up unlocks weapons, clothing, car customizations, and more advanced activities (such as parachuting and aircraft). Once unlocked, items need to be purchased with in-game currency, which can be earned or purchased with real money. Players can circumvent an activity's level requirements by joining a game with others of a sufficient rank. There are options to play alone or with friends, and an option for "Passive Mode", which makes the player immune to other players.[9]

Aside from the open world, there are three main types of set activities: racing (by car, bike, aircraft, or boat), Deathmatch (team or free-for-all), and objective-based Contact Missions (simplified single-player-like storyline jobs, usually cooperative). Online uses lock-on aim and emphasizes stealth in firefights. "Adversary Mode" adds several asymmetric variations on these activities, including "Siege Mentality" where one team is besieged by another, and "Hasta La Vista" where truckers chase down cyclists (reminiscent of the truck/motorcycle chase in Terminator 2: Judgment Day). "Survival" pits a team of up to four players against ten waves of enemies, similar to the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops. The Heists Update released on 10 March 2015 adds five co-ops elaborate multi-part missions, each mission having several setup jobs leading up to the finale crime which is a high-profit job. The player who is the heist leader has to unlock each heist in order and pay the upfront costs, while receiving the largest payoff (at the end, if successfully completed) and getting their progress saved, while other players (the crew members) can join any setup/finale jobs without prerequisite and get paid a cut for each mission passed. The heists, all requiring four players except the first which is two-player, often assign specific roles to players such as driver, gunner, etc. and/or may split them apart, and a headset is recommended for communicating with other players.[10][11]

The game includes a content creation tool that lets players make automobile races and deathmatches.[8] Players can choose the location, start and spawn points, and weapon and vehicle drops in deathmatches, and the location, route, race type, and player count in air, land, or sea races. Creations have to be tested against computer-controlled players before the mode is available online. The creations can also be published for others to use. Rockstar tags what they deem to be the best as "Rockstar Verified".[12]

Plot Edit

The game's narrative begins in 2013, several months before Grand Theft Auto V. Players take on the role of a silent protagonist who moves to Los Santos in search for new pursuits. Upon arrival, they meet with Lamar Davis (Slink Johnson), whom they befriended on Life invader. After a street race against the player, Lamar introduces them to drug dealer Gerald (Douglas Powell Ward) and corrupt Armenian car salesman Simeon Yetarian (Demosthenes Chrysan) for work. As the player slowly builds up their reputation, they attract the attention of individuals like Trevor Philips (Steven Ogg), hacker Lester Crest (Jay Klaitz), and Mexican drug lord Martin Madrazo (Alfredo Huereca), who also employ them.

Eventually, the player is offered bigger job opportunities by Lester, who recruits them for several bank robberies; a shady government agent known only as Agent 14 (Ryan Farrell), who has them break a convicted spy out of prison and raid a government-run lab; and Trevor, who enlists their help with a highly profitable drug deal.[d] Later, Lamar also hires the player for a few jobs, which mostly consist of sabotaging rival gangs to set the stage for his eventual rise to power. However, this only leads to Lamar having a falling out with his own gang, so he attempts to win back their trust, once again with the player's help.[e] During this time, the player slowly builds up their own criminal empire, starting with an initially small organization,[f] which is subsequently expanded by purchasing an office and several warehouses to aid the player in the theft and sale of various goods.[g] Sometime later, the player also starts a motorcycle club and begins running additional illicit businesses.[h]

In 2017,[2] the player continues to expand their empire by purchasing a bunker, from where they conduct a gunrunning operation alongside Agent 14,[I] and a hangar, to help them run a smuggling operation with Trevor's former associate Ron Jakowski (David Mogen tale).[j] In December, Lester has the player purchase an ex-government underground facility, and introduces them to billionaire Avon Hertz (Sean McGrath) and his AI network Clifford, who recruit them to help prevent an undisclosed future catastrophic event. During their mission, the group are joined by the International Affairs Agency (IAA), including Agent 14, and clash with a rogue Russian special ops unit led by a man named Bogdan (Vyto Ruginis). However, after eliminating most of the unit, Avon and Clifford turn on the group, revealing their true intentions to trigger a nuclear Armageddon, and that they have been using everyone to gain access to the state's defense system. Now joined by Bogdan, the group works to thwart Avon and Clifford's plot, and are ultimately successful, after the player raids their secret facility and eliminates them both. [k]

In July 2018, the player opens a new nightclub in Los Santos with the help of former Liberty City nightclub entrepreneur "Gay" Tony Prince (David Kenner), and begins using it as a front for their illicit businesses.[l] In December, they become a top competitor in Arena War, a new demolition derby-like TV series taking place at the city's Maze Bank Arena.[m] In July 2019, the player becomes a VIP member at the newly-opened Diamond Casino & Resort, and begins assisting the staff with the various problems they are facing; primarily Texan businessman Avery Duggan, who is planning a hostile takeover. After disrupting his operations and defending the casino from several attacks, the player eventually kills Duggan, allowing his nephew Thornton to buy the casino after promising not to make any major changes. [n] In December, the player and a retired Lester plan a robbery of the casino alongside Georgina Cheng (Christina Liang), sister of former casino owner Tao (Richard Hsu), who seeks retribution against Thornton for tricking her brother into selling him the casino. The heist is carried out successfully, humiliating Thornton, while Lester enters a relationship with Georgina. [o]

In 2020, the player conducts several new jobs for Gerald,[p] and enters a short-lived conflict with the Kanga after they raid their personal yacht, which ends with the player killing the gang's leader.[q] In December, the player is hired by Martin Madrazo's son Miguel (Robbie Gottlieb) to steal some incriminating files of his family from Juan "El Rubio" Strickler (Joseph Melendez), the world's most notorious drug dealer and the Madrazo family's main supplier, who has threatened to report them to the DEA if they do not renegotiate their prices. As El Rubio rarely leaves his private and heavily guarded island, Cayo Perico, located offshore from Colombia, the player poses as the tour manager of the music group KinderMusik after they are invited to one of El Rubio's parties, in order to gain intel on the island. Afterward, with the help of their recently purchased submarine and its one-man crew, Pavel (Brandon Bailis), they plan a robbery of El Rubio's compound. The heist is ultimately successful, as the player escapes with both the files on Madrazo and various goods. [r]

In July 2021, the player becomes a member of the LS Car Meet, an underground meeting place for fans of custom cars and street racing. There, they are introduced to Kenny "KDJ" Dixon Jr. and Susanta (Emana Rachelle), who provide the player with several robbery contracts after they purchase an auto shop and prove themselves to them. [s] In December, Lamar reaches out to the player again, to persuade them to invest in the business of his old friend, Franklin Clinton (Shawn Fonteno), who has recently started a celebrity solutions agency. Franklin manages to secure their first major contract with Dr. Dre, who had his phone stolen last year and needs it recovered before the unreleased music stored on it is leaked. The player works alongside Franklin and the agency's hacker specialist, Imani (Sarita Amani Nash), to track down the phone, only to discover that three copies have been made and distributed around Los Santos. The player investigates each lead and eventually recovers the stolen music. Afterwards, Imani learns that the culprit was Johnny Guns, a records producer at odds with Dre, and that he has sent hitmen to kill Dre at his recording studio. After the player saves Dre, they help him find and confront Guns, whom Dre beats with a golf club in revenge. As a token of appreciation for their help, Dre allows the player to be the first person to listen to his newest song. Meanwhile, Lamar, upset at being left out of Franklin's new dealings, starts his own cannabis business, LD Organics. Franklin and Lamar later attempt to diversify it by making a connection with a client involved in the Epsilon program. Although the client ultimately betrays them, the pair dismantle a rival business run by the Vago's gang, and their stunts draw widespread media attention, which Lamar takes advantage of to promote his business. Development Edit

Grand Theft Auto Online launched on 1 October 2013, two weeks after the release of Grand Theft Auto V.[13] Many players reported that they had difficulties connecting to the game's servers and the Social Club web service, and others further reported that the game would freeze while loading early missions.[14][15] Rockstar released a technical patch on 5 October in an effort to resolve the issues.[16] The microtransaction system, which allows players to purchase game content using real money, was also suspended as a fail-safe.[17] Problems persisted the second week following launch, and some players reported their player-character progress as having disappeared.[18] Another technical patch was released on 10 October combating the issues, and players experiencing issues were told not to recreate their multiplayer avatars.[19] As recompense for the technical issues, Rockstar offered a stimulus of GTA $500,000 (in-game currency) to the accounts of all players connected to Online since launch.[20]

Rockstar announced in September 2015 that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the online mode will no longer receive any new additional content, due to limitation in the console capacity.[21] This was criticized by Forbes writer Paul Tassi, who felt that Rockstar was "cutting out a lot of potential customers" who continued to play on the older systems, adding that the re-releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were lacking in additional content.[22] In June 2021, Rockstar announced that the game's servers for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions would shut down on December 16; microtransactions became unavailable for the platforms on September 15, and Social Club tracking closed on September 16.[1] A standalone version of Grand Theft Auto Online will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in March 2022;[23] it will be free on the former for the first three months.[24]

In early 2021, a user known as "t0st" reported they had found a way to reduce the loading times of GTA Online by up to 70% with an unofficial patch. Rockstar affirmed that the patch improved these load times, and officially included this patch into the game in March 2021 update, and thanked the user for the discovery, awarding them $10,000 from their Bug Bounty program.[25][26][27]

Additional content Edit

Post-release content is continually added to Grand Theft Auto Online through free title updates.

2013 Edit

All the Holiday Gifts featured in this update were removed on 5 January 2014.[31]

2014 Edit

Coinciding with the 2014 Valentine's Day, the Valentine's Day Massacre Special update was released on 13 February and added Bonnie and Clyde-themed content to the game for a limited time, until the end of February.[32] The Business Update, released on 4 March, added multiple business-themed items to the game.[33] On 11 April, the Capture Creator update was released that added the ability for players to create their own Capture jobs using the Content Creator.[34] The High Life Update, released on 13 May, added several new contact missions, new vehicles, clothing items, and weapons. The Independence Day Special update was released on 1 July to celebrate the U.S. Independence Day and added patriotic-themed vehicles, weapons and customization items for a limited time. The patch added new properties to Grand Theft Auto Online and the "On Call Matchmaking" feature that lets player accept a job invite and keep playing until the lobby is full.[38] The San Andreas Flight School update, released on 19 August, added new features and vehicles related to the in-game flying school.[39] The Last Team Standing update was released on 2 October and added 10 new jobs, motorcycles, weapons and creator support for the Last Team Standing game mode.[40] On 18 December, the Festive Surprise update was released and added two new weapons, four holiday-themed vehicles and clothing items, which were made unavailable after 5 January 2015. The update also added the ability to buy a third property and saw the return of snowfall to the game world.[41]

2015 Edit

The Heists update, which added five multi-part missions with large payouts that can be completed by teams of four players, was a highly anticipated feature of Grand Theft Auto Online.[42][43] Aside from the heists, the update also introduced Adversary Modes, and several new weapons and vehicles. After numerous delays,[44][45] the Heists update launched on 10 March 2015, suffering some initial technical difficulties due to the increased user load.[46] Ill-Gotten Gains Part 1, released on 10 June, added new vehicles, clothing items and weapon decals. Some gameplay features were also affected, such as a redesign of the in-game car websites, the addition of a first-person vehicle hood camera in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, and the ability to cycle through targets when using lock-on missiles, among other minor changes.[47] Ill-Gotten Gains Part 2, released on 8 July, added vehicles and weapons. It also added the radio station The Lab, previously exclusive to the Windows version of the game, to all other versions. This was also the final update for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, citing hardware limitations.[48] The Free mode Events update launched on 15 September, and added new modes and activities. It also added the Rockstar Editor and Director Mode, previously exclusive to the Windows version of the game, to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions.[49]

Lowriders, released on 10 October, added a new series of missions given by Lamar, new vehicles, vehicle upgrades, weapons (including the machete and machine-pistol), and clothing items. It also introduced a new vehicle shop, Benny's Original Motor Works, which allows players to customize Lowriders, including upgrades such as interior customization, hydraulics, and decals.[50] Halloween Surprise, released on 29 October, featured two new Halloween-themed vehicles, flashlight and additional masks and ornaments, along with slasher-themed Adversary Modes; the additional content featured in this update was only temporarily, and was removed on 16 November.[51] The Executives and Other Criminals update released on 15 December and added new customizable Penthouse Apartments, new vehicles, and a new game mode entitled Extraction, as well as the ability to form organizations of players with exclusive missions.[52] The Festive Surprise update returned on 21 December with snowfall, both new and old festive-themed clothes and masks, and a new car. It also added a new Adversary Mode, which was released on 23 December.[53]

2016 Edit

An update released on 28 January 2016 added a new Adversary Mode called Drop Zone and two new sports cars.[54] The Be My Valentine update launched on 10 February and, in addition to the content featured in the previous Valentine's Day-themed update, added new outfits, cars, and couple-themed Adversary Mode.[55] The Lowriders: Custom Classics update, released on 15 March, added three cars available for customization along with new weapons, clothes and an Adversary Mode called Sumo.[56] Further Adventures in Finance and Felony was released on 7 June, and added executive offices and cargo warehouses, available for purchase to all players who are part of an organization, as well several new organization-related missions, challenges, vehicles, clothing items, weapon attachments, and Adversary Mode called Trading Places.[57] The Cunning Stunts update, released on 12 July, added 13 new vehicles and 16 stunt races.[58]

The Bikers update, released on 4 October, introduced motorcycle clubs, which function similarly to organizations, and come with purchasable clubhouses and businesses, such as counterfeit cash factories and weed farms, as well as club-related missions given by Malc (Walter Modu), a character first introduced in Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned. The update also added new bikes, biker-themed weapons, tattoos, and clothing items, and a new Adversary Mode.[59] Released on 8 November, the Deadline update added a new Adversary Mode compared by critics to the light cycle races from Disney's Tron film franchise, specifically those seen in the 2010 film, Tron: Legacy.[60] 13 December saw the release of both the Import/Export and Festive Surprise 2016 updates. The former, an expansion to the Finance and Felony update, introduced vehicle warehouses and Special Vehicle Work missions available to all players who are part of organizations.[61] The latter added more Christmas-themed content to the game.[62][63]

2017 Edit

The Cunning Stunts: Special Vehicle Circuit, released on 14 March 2017, introduced special vehicle stunt races and 20 additional races.[64] The Gunrunning update was released on 13 June and introduced purchasable underground bunkers, which players can turn into illegal weaponry research, storage and production facilities. It also introduced new vehicles such as armored personnel carriers and armed off-road cars, and the Mobile Operations Center (MOC), which provides a new level of customization for weapons and vehicles, as well as special missions that reward players with discounts for some of the vehicles featured in this update.[65] The Smuggler's Run update, released on 29 August, added purchasable hangars and a new type of business related to them: air cargo smuggling. The update also introduced a number of new aircraft, which can be stored inside the players' hangars, and a new Adversary Mode.[66]

The Doomsday Heist, released on 12 December, added a new take on heists. The eponymous Doomsday Heist, longer and more profitable than any of the original heists, is split into three "acts", which can be completed by a group of 2-4 players from start to finish. Each act features its own setup missions, half of which take place in free mode and can be sabotaged by other players. The update also introduced a new type of properties—underground facilities—which are required for the heist, and a large extent of military-grade vehicles and weapons.[67] Later that month, the Festive Surprise update returned with new and old holiday-themed content.[68]

2018 Edit

Released on 20 March 2018, Southern San Andreas Super Sport Series added new races, vehicles, and game modes.[69] The After-Hours update, released on 24 July, introduced a new nightlife-related business, alongside the return of "Gay" Tony Prince from Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony, who helps players run their nightclubs. Each club also features an underground portion that can be used to smuggle goods produced by the players' other businesses, such as drugs and weapons. The update also added new missions, vehicles, clothing items, one weapon, and songs by real-life DJs Solomon, Tale Of Us, Dixon and The Black Madonna, all of whom can be hired to work for the players' nightclubs after assisting them with several Favours.[70] One of the vehicles introduced in the update, the Oppressor Mk II (a hovering motorcycle that can be equipped with machine guns or homing missiles as well as flare countermeasures), has since gained notoriety within the game's community for facilitating grieving.[71]

The Arena War update, released on 11 December, introduced new demolition derby-themed Adversary Modes at the city's Maze Bank Arena, featuring armored vehicles likened to those from Mad Max and Robot Wars. Once players buy a garage at the Arena, they can earn "Arena Points" from participating in these Adversary Modes, which can be used to unlock special cosmetics for their character and vehicles, also added with the update.[72] The Festive Surprise update returned later that month with snowfall, holiday-themed items, three new vehicles, two Arena War Adversary Modes, and a new weapon, as well as discounts on various items and double earnings for several jobs.[73]

2019 Edit

The Diamond Casino & Resort update, released on 23 July 2019, introduced the eponymous casino, where players can engage in various gambling minigames and purchase a highly customizable penthouse, which gives them access to exclusive areas of the casino and casino-related missions. The update also added new vehicles, clothing items, a new type of currency—casino chips—and other casino-related activities.[74] The in-game gambling activities are not available in certain regions, including a few US states, due to differing laws and regulations.[75]

The Diamond Casino Heist, released on 12 December, added a new heist with a different approach from the previous ones, but reminiscent of the heists from the single-player story. Unlike the original heists or The Doomsday Heist, all setup missions are done in free mode and can be completed by one player, with only the heist itself requiring at least two people. Players can also hire NPC accomplices to facilitate the heist, who take different cuts depending on their skill level. To unlock the heist, players must once again buy a new property, also added with the update: arcades. While mainly used as fronts for planning the heist and not actually a profitable business, the arcades are highly customizable, and can be expanded with new arcade games. The Diamond Casino Heist also introduced 20 new vehicles, two weapons, several clothing items, and an in-game radio station curated by rappers Danny Brown and Skepta.[76][77] Later that month, the Festive Surprise update returned with new and old holiday-themed content, a new vehicle, and discounts on various items and properties.[78]

2020 Edit

Gerald's Last Play is a series of six cooperative missions given by Gerald that were added on 23 April 2020, as a continuation of The Diamond Casino Heist update.[79] The Los Santos Summer Special, released on 11 August, added new yacht-themed missions, vehicles, Adversary Modes, racetracks, and the Open Wheel Race Creator, which allows players to create their own custom tracks. The update also featured several quality-of-life improvements, such as adding the possibility of owning up to eight properties.[80]

First teased in July as "a new take on heists in an entirely new location",[81] The Cayo Perico Heist was officially announced in November, when it was revealed that it would add a new island to the game's map, making it the biggest Grand Theft Auto Online content update to date. The heist featured in the update, which consists of robbing the drug cartel that controls the island, has been described as the "next evolution in Heists gameplay", because it offers more approaches than all previous heists, including the possibility of being completed solo from start to finish, and can play out in various ways depending on player actions. The update was also said to add several new vehicles, including a military submarine, which is required for the heist, weapons, and music.[82] In December, it was revealed that The Cayo Perico Heist would also add a new nightclub called the Music Locker underneath the Diamond Casino & Resort, featuring real-life musicians Moody Mann, KinderMusik, and Palms Trax; three radio stations (two of which are hosted by Joy Orbison and Julian Casablanca's); and new songs on some of the already existing stations.[83][84] The update was released on 15 December[85] to largely positive reception; most of the criticism was reserved for the limited exploration capabilities of the new island.[86]

2021 Edit

On 27 May 2021, eight stunt races were added to the game,[87] followed by seven new arenas for the "Deadline" mode on 24 June,[88] and seven maps for "Survival" on 8 July.[89] Los Santos Tuners, released on 20 July, added a new social place called the "LS Car Meet", which includes several facilities, such as a mod shop, a merch shop with exclusive clothing items, and a test track where players can try out new vehicles for free. The meet also features a reputation system and "Prize Ride Challenges"—a series of race-related challenges which change weekly and award players with new vehicles. The update also added new street races, 17 highly-customizable tuner vehicles, and a new type of properties—auto shops—which allow players to complete robbery contracts, steal vehicles for export, or operate a legitimate car repair and customization business.[90][91]

First announced on 8 December and released on 15 December, The Contract is a story-focused expansion that adds a new business, "F. Clinton and Partner", a celebrity solutions agency which is run with the help of Franklin Clinton, one of the protagonists from the single-player game. The Agency's first high-tier client is Dr. Dre, who had his phone containing unreleased music stolen and needs it recovered before the tracks are leaked. The missions added with The Contract are structured similarly to past Heists, in that players are required to complete several prerequisite investigation jobs before they can move on to recovering the stolen music. Aside from the Dr. Dre-related missions, the update also provides smaller jobs such as Contracts, which increase the passive income generated by the Agency over time; payphone assassinations; and a three-mission storyline revolving around Lamar's new cannabis business, where players get to control either Lamar or Franklin. The Contract also adds 17 new vehicles (some of which can be equipped with exclusive upgrades, like Armour and remote control, at the Agency), three weapons (the Heavy Rifle, the stun gun, and a compact EMP launcher), various clothing items, a new radio station curated by musicians Rosalía and Arca, and an update to two of the already existing stations, including new music created by Dr. Dre, Anderson .Paak, and Snoop Dogg for the game,[92] released as singles on 4 February 2022.[93][94]The Cayo Perico Heist is available now in GTA Online. We share with you all the details to know about the biggest update in the history of multiplayer, to play solo or with others.

The most awaited update of GTA Online is finally available. According to Rockstar who share all the info, the Cayo Perico Heist is “Biggest and Most Ambitious Grand Theft Auto Online Adventure Yet “, in which you can take part solo or with up to three other players. To discover the unique place deployed on the occasion, you will need a new contact, to meet in a nightclub in Los Santos, The Music Locker. Miguel Madrazo, the son of Martin and Patricia, is looking for someone to rob the fortress of El Rubio, which is located on the super secure island of Cayo Perico. Your role will therefore be to infiltrate this place of festivities to get your hands on very important issues. It will be necessary to avoid a lot of obstacles on the spot, such as armed guards and surveillance cameras, and discreetly identify loopholes and secret entrances. The approach is free, but it is better to prepare the ground, and that includes the arsenal and the hour of the crime. We also learn that some treasures and tools will almost never be found twice in the same place, and that others will sometimes only be accessible in multi. Kostka submarine will be an excellent headquarters. It is maintained by Pavel, a somewhat deranged but very well equipped former Soviet helmsman: planning screen, personal quarters, mess, cell, torpedoes, etc. You can pilot the craft along the southern coasts and equip it with other optional structures.

You will be well received at Pavel

Other new features: radio stations like KULT 99.1 FM, moderated by Julian Casablanca. Gilles Peterson and Flying Lotus also have new releases to show on Worldwide FM and Fly Lo FM. Joy Orbison’s pirate radio station Still Slipping Los Santos also has something to tell you. It will be necessary to find broken radio antennas in the city to repair them and that everyone can listen to this frequency. Note that those who log in this week are entitled to yellow Still Slipping t-shirt for free. In fact, fashion stores have welcomed arrivals of the new Civilis and MISBHV brands. A rather nice glimpse of Cayo Perico

Other new vehicles are now available for residents of Los Santos: Stealth Annihilator, Vapid Winky, RO-86 Alkonost, Patrol Boat Kurtz 31, Pegasus Toreador, Shitu Longfin. Those who collect more than a trillion GTA $ during the heist will be entitled to a Free Classic Dinka Veto between Friday December 18 and Sunday December 20. And also count on weapons with a military bullpup type rifle at Ammu-Nation, a combat pump rifle to unlock during the heist, or even El Rubio’s hidden pistol. And if not on ENEA, you are entitled to -50% on the Megalodon Shark Cash Card. By the way, we don’t forget this first clue about GTA VI hidden in a GTA Online teaser.

Credit: Rockstar Why "Grand Theft Auto V" Is the Biggest Disappointment in Video Game History

smart knowledge

Aug 29, 2020

Before we start this article, I just want to say that I think the GTA series is absolutely the best series in all of video game history. Growing up with video games in the early '90s, I played pretty much everything—Mario, Sonic, Zelda, even '80s classics such as Space Invaders and so on. When GTA 3 came out, I was a young boy, and I still remember my awe when I looked at the back of the case and saw the 3D, free-roam possibilities. It was amazing racing around, listening to music, beating people down, awesome missions, ridiculously great graphics, THE FREEDOM TO DO ANYTHING… it was a revolution in gaming.

For me, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was the pinnacle of gaming. I'm impartial to COD, and I played Final Fantasy 9 for over 100 hours, but my time spent in San Andreas was beyond anything I've ever done. Perhaps I'm looking back through nostalgic glasses, but San Andreas was everything I ever wanted a video game to be. The missions were plentiful, variable, easy and hard; you could fly and drive everything, every cop chase was a thrilling moment… it was glorious.

Then I grew up and didn't play GTA 4 much. For me, it lacked the fun that the previous GTAs add (I might as well add that Vice City was incredible too, everything about it).

GTA 5: A Flop

Let me make another thing clear: I was excited about GTA 5, and I mean really excited. Up until it was released, I'd just play FIFA and the occasional 10 minutes on other games here and there. I was looking forward to getting some good hours in, completing tricky missions, and doing all sorts of maniacal things.

GTA 5 promised so much, and it looked so great. But let's be honest—it's a flop—a complete and utter flop.

Looks so fun! And it is... for 10 minutes.

Looks so fun! And it is... for 10 minutes.

The Good

Let’s get the few good points out of the way, because that’s all there is. I don’t want to slate the game too much—it’s fun and a hell of a lot better than most other games out there.

The graphics are great. They truly are, but so are many other games now. It’s a pleasure to watch the water and looking at the city is amazing, but these things wear off quickly.

The characters and character-switching are excellent. I really liked the characters, all three of them. The switching is good too, and an enjoyable aspect.

The cars feel fun to drive. Police chases, along with the cinematic camera, don’t get old. The police are quite hard, yes, but that just adds to the fun and the thrill of the chase.

Selfies. Yes, that’s right. In one of the most anticipated games of all time, selfies are probably the stand-out highlight, although you can’t save or upload them unless you pay for gold on Xbox Live.

The Bad

So now onto why I think GTA V is a complete flop. There are so many reasons, but I'll stick to the biggest problems here.

First, the map. Let's be honest. When you look at the city, it's great, and the mountains are fun for a while too, while the desert provides some good alternative scenery. But apart from that, it's complete garbage. So much time and effort seem to have been wasted on the ocean. How many times have I been down there? About three, and two were for missions, I'm sure. It's just boring as hell. There's barely anything to discover, and absolutely nothing to do except collect "nuclear waste" (which is just boring). It's a complete waste of time.

In addition, the map just feels… flat. There's no forest, no snow, very few little hideouts, the tunnels are boring as hell, and even the skydives are just not thrilling at all. It seems like Rockstar wasted a huge amount of time here because, for five years, the map is just lame.

Secondly—LACK OF INTERIORS! I mean, WTF??? You can go into very, very few buildings: garages (which all look the same), the strip club (which, unless your 12, is lame), Ammu Nation (again, all the same). There's no variety, barely any choice, and you just can't do anything except drive past a load of FAKE HOUSES AND BUILDINGS. It's garbage.

Thirdly is the bike handling. In GTA: San Andreas, it was thrilling to ride a bike, and especially a BMX, but now it's just awful. They handle worse than cars, and there's a high chance you'll die. R* killed this one.

The multiplayer is atrociously boring. Even if we forget the infuriating bugs, how much fun are a few deathmatches and robbing stores? It's been done before, and it gets old fast. For me, I don't even like to play with idiotic 12-year-old, so I'd rather play offline, where there's… well, nothing. I'm not even going to review the multiplayer—I'll just say it's even worse than single player, and let's leave it at that. I'm sure it's great fun with 12 friends, but what if you're not a nerdy loser who has loads of Xbox friends?

Car customization? Shallow.

Gun customization? A flashlight and extended clip.

Stealth? Non-existent.

Spontaneous Bank robberies? Forget it.

Annoying iPhone app? Yes… but what if you don't own an iPhone or Android?

You'll be on your knees with how disappointed you are (and this scene never actually happens in the game either)

You'll be on your knees with how disappointed you are (and this scene never actually happens in the game either)

The Downright Ugly

The story is the most disappointing thing in GTA V, and perhaps in all of gaming history. I thought we were promised an awesome movie-like story, but what do we get?

That's right—ridiculously easy, boring missions. Again, we were told there would be diverse missions, a range of things to do, and stuff we'd never seen before. We get shootouts that are just boring (the auto-aim just kills everyone on the screen), checkpoints so there's no worry of failure, and driving around for 20 minutes at a time. I mean, one of the missions—yes, 1 of the 67 or so missions—is literally just buying three masks.

And don't get me started on the heists. The trailers promised us the ability to plan heists meticulously, and then…

WE GET THE CHOICE OF TWO OPTIONS? Two options?!??! How is that planning?

The heists were undoubtedly the biggest let-down of the game. We barely get any money until the last one, and there's even a "heist" where we fly a helicopter and submarine to pick up a "weapon," only to give it back. It sounds fun, but it's amazing how much it's just awful. Ten minutes of flying there, ten minutes in a painfully slow submarine, and ten minutes flying back. Yeah, great heist.

And that's why I think GTA V is a complete flop. My opinion? Play the 3D trilogy if you want some real fun. Or don't waste your time and money. Go and do something productive with your time instead.

Snoopy on March 22, 2020:

Oh. And one more thing. Someone said about expectations. That these expectations are for 2020, not the 2013, the game release date. So listen here KID: try to play very first MAFIA on you grandpas' dusty PC and 3:4 monitor (lol). And you'll find plenty of things that GTA still suck at. And then make some research on MAFIA's release date. And it's still a masterpiece. Still and will be.

Snoopy on March 22, 2020:

I thought GTAV will be a step up of GTAIV. In fact, only the Graphix was improved. Car physics became worse and unrealistic. Bike steering angle looks funny. Bike is no more a dangerous transport; you can ram a truck and you still in saddle. Euphoria is ruined too. In IV you could be pressed by a bike and lose your health; you could step on corpses. Now you can't. Corpses had weight. Now you move them just walking thru WTF. EXPLOSIONS... oh yeah. This is my Favorite. In IV cars was damaging, deforming by explosions, then burned and only then the gas tank exploded. Now all cars made of flammable gas and tyros are made of gunpowder. It was fun to blow cars in traffic jams in IV and watch what is going to be next. Now you blow one and all other cars explode in same time. Also, it ruined gameplay so many times, not giving a chance to eject a burning car and get a wasted screen. Fighting. Fighting in V is trash. Aiming trash. Baseball Bat animation wtf? All this ugly step-by-step fighting logics makes it irritate. Tires as i already said now made of gunpowder, looks funny and disappointing. Tyre model now disappear faster that is very unrealistic, and you can run on naked rim much better than in IV. In IV there was a feeling that you really run on Stillie rims on concrete or tarmac, it was difficult. In-air car positioning - bullshit. I do instinctively turn my wheels in popper direction to correct car as soon as i land, but now my car flips because of it in wrong direction WTF. There was a good idea that you could push cars in previous versions, now in V try to push car of a cliff - impossible. Planes. I played GTASA long time ago, but if my memory is ok - planes had more fun to drive, i remember air battles on hydra - it was awesome. Now it's Rubush. Interiors. Why not just transfer all Burger shots and Luckinbills from iv to v? Fail. No fast food shops anymore. But it was fun to make a shootout in them in IV. Hospitals. Same thing as cafes. No hospitals no fun. We have some interiors on missions, but they are all locked in SP mode, WTF. Why i can use an elevator on a mission to climb a skyscraper and in SP it doesn't even has a button. Fail. And this is things i just pulled out immediately, i can go on further, i doubt the comment size will allow.

Tk on May 25, 2019:

Rockstar, please ask companies like Bethesda and barware on the importance of interaction. Swallow your pride, games are inspired from other games. Look at sky rim, fallout, fable, dragon age and even mass effect where one can be anything from a bard to a king, entering, invading, claiming and buying castles and tents. Joining factions and cults, riding dead horses and fighting dragons. The creators of Gat 5 knew how to make a Gat game without a doubt but they lacked imagination and even worse, had no desire to change the gaming industry like they once did. Oh, how the rockstars have fallen...painful game

Majik on May 20, 2019:

So, the "biggest setbacks" to you is that there is no snow, there's no forests (even though there are) and the bike handling is bad (which it isn't)? Also, gym shallow car and gun customization? They're far more extensive than just about any other open world game on the market in 2013. It sounds like you just pulled these out of your ass bro.

No mention of the GTA creator and the community which it has spawned that has maintained interest in the game during the lulls between updates. As creators we have made content that helped keep the game alive, when R* and TTI didn't seem so invested in the IP. We will continue to keep the game alive until GTA6 appears.

If you are having problems finding people to play with on XB, it's because everyone who liked the game bought a PS4 where the community is huge.

"a complete and utter flop"

They say about the single most profitable piece of media ever created.

No matter how you felt about it or how disappointed you were, calling this game a flop is objectively incorrect. It has made rockstar over 6 billion dollars since it came out.

Yea I thought the story mode would be all about heists and getting rich being a bank robber and avoiding cops and shit not helping the cops. There were only like 2 real heists where u got money and they were pretty boring, and the rest of the story is pretty pointless and boring too

GTA on October 19, 2018:

Not the best GTA game.

Heavily cut down physics engine inferior to GTA IV's

*Car physics including inertia, traction, suspension etc. simplified

*Collisions which seem to have a bizarre mass vs mass vector meaning cars not belonging to the player are like bricks

* Pedestrians that only have one global behaviors, which is to try and fight the player for simply standing a meter away

*Poorly executed character switching mechanics during missions where gameplay is constantly interrupted to perform a task resulting in the mission pacing being ruined.

*Generic, short story Mode that is basically training for online, the story itself bland with forgettable characters and unclear/absent long-term goals/motivations.

*Police in chases have a scripted ability where they tap your car after suddenly gaining 100mph, the pit maneuver itself is also scripted instead of relying on the physics of the sandbox.

*Online is basically a grind trap with Rockstar now focused on shark cards, watch them pull this same thing for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Willie on September 27, 2018:

OMG Seriously. This article is absolute rubbish. GTA V is a great game, probably the greatest game ever made. Statistics will tell you that. Who cares what a handful of opinionated bloopers have to say? Yes, it could be better sou could every game ever made. People dints make games for individual but rather for groups of people and based of research and focus groups and what is trending. My expectations of video games is so high in what I would like it to be that I would never be satisfied, and every game will be rubbish to me. Be realistic and know that everything has its limits. And you CAN'T say GTA SERIES is the best of all video games and then sat GTA V is a flop, I think you are stuck on GTA SA which, yes was great but its absolute crap compared to GTA IV and GTA V.

Please don't write articles like ethics because it shows just how little you know. You probably still spend hours playing MARIO or SONIC or something, thinking...They dint make games this good anymore. You are sad.

Human Jr on September 22, 2018:

Finally, someone who feels the same way!

I think I felt ultimately disappointed because I let myself get too excited for it. I built the game up in my mind to a point that was impossible to reach.

But there are so many little annoying things, like how quickly you die: you are so afraid to try anything fun because you know you'll immediately be killed, by either a short fall or a few bullets. You can't roll down the big mountain, or even land upside down in a car, it's ridiculous.

The hair and beard options are so weak; there's like four for each character. There are ZERO hat options for Michael, aside from the golf visor attached to that outfit.

80% of the map is an empty field.

GTA V is simply a shallow game. GTA IV is such a pleasure to play because it is small but very concentrated. There are more pedestrians to mess with. (In GTA V there are barely any in a given location, and they're all on a simple walking loop, it seems.) GTA V is an impossible game.

Leeds fan on July 10, 2018:

It's simply one massive disappointment. This game had the potential to be the best game ever, let alone GTA. R* spent 5 years on hype and useless landscape development. I mean seriously, fuck your oceans. Here's a list of gripes off the top of my head:

1 Missed opportunity: they took the time to design an amazing array of realistic(looking) cars, yet they never exploited them. What happened to the car collecting staples of previous GTAs? Why doesn't Los Santos Customs need any cars?

We get a massively developed stocks market, but, aside from the Lester missions, pretty much nothing to do with it. Do R* really expect us to sit and follow the market on a cellphone? Is that what GTA came to? why on Earth can't I affect the stocks myself? Because that would have been amazing fun.

The investments are fucking terrible. So, you're telling me that Trevor bought an airfield, but he can't just hire a bloody employee to make money like the old GTAs? Ron? Or that other cunt in the strip club? What were R* thinking when they offered the tow truck investment? That someone will two cars five hundred billion times just to break even? The other investments can't be developed or supported a la GTASA or VC. Terrible shame, those, along with the car collecting missions, were the main meal of the campaign, because they enabled us to create an empire.

Where did the fun go? Is this GTA or Sims 3? Yoga? Walking the dog? Tennis? Paying some fucking coach to bang my wife, then not even giving me the option to kill him? Watching my useless kid play games? Running up and down the beach with some crazy cat lady? GOING TO THE DOCTOR? FUCK YOU R*. Fuck you, fuck you, deep from my heart. Is this what GTA has come to? The mad, over-exaggerated, violent escape-from-reality masterpiece has become a simulation of your average American family life. yeah, that's fucking great fun, just wonderful. They should have added some 9 to 5 accounting jobs just for the hell of it at that point, and the fanboys would keep sucking their dicks.

But most of all, it`s the cars and everything related to them. They've gone down the F&F route here: no focus on what their original and principal selling point is. They improved the engine, yet the driving is still terrible. Good luck with the interior POV when you can barely see anything behind or next to you.

Car modifications are fucking awful. Why can't I raise a truck to make on offload monster? Why can't I modify a harmless looking station wagon into the ultimate sleeper? Why are the brakes always terrible?

They gave us the option of buying cars, but not of keeping them. What's the point of buying a hyper car or a gorgeous classic if it'll be gone when I turn my back for half a minute? Why on Earth can't we have on option to make the fucking cars stay when they're parked in front of the house. I would've loved to surround Franklin`s Vinewood mansion with the most beautiful BMWs and Gagon's and Paganism, yet all I get is a two-car grimy garage and the stupid white Charger. Fuck the 4(?) car garage halfway through the city.

What about the safehouses? I loved the little apartment CJ had in San Fierro, and the mansion in the hills, and the cozy little house down in ... I forgot what the hillbilly town was called. Whetstone? But better yet, the safehouses, and, more generally, the environment, were much warmer and much more memorable. I mean, Grove Street genuinely felt like home. Compare that to Chamberlain St or whatever it was called where Franklin lives? I couldn't remember which one was my driveway after two hundred tries.

I could go on and on and on and on. GTA V had the opportunity to be the single, unchallenged, best game of all time. Instead, we get a half-baked excuse for a GTA game. great stuff.

Dr. Finnegan on June 01, 2018:

The lack of interiors kills the game. Not a single bar, hotel, restaurant, anything to spend the money like a person does. The lack of interaction is boring, you can hang out in a very nice city but barely do anything...

Get gold on it first then say it's easy. GTA V might not have many interiors but what's the point of going there if it's not related to any missions or anything? Just to waste time? By the way buildings like life invader and others are enterable once or so but look how detailed they are!! So, guys, GTA V is awesome!!!

Hit a ped ones and you have the f*ng N.O.O.S on your ass!. The missions were funny and enjoyable but that's about it though, I'm still playing SA and TBOG it's always fun, where I can't drive for 20 min without getting bored in V, I'm a huge fan of the GTA series but man its hurtfully to say (GTA V) sucks toe!!!

You do know that they work on other games then Gat, right? They did flop with online but if you are social online and not an a- hole you can get many friends. The heist does let you choose if you want to take a loud and stupid take on the heist. I even enjoyed the story more then gta4 and the game runs great. The final mission if you choose the "death wish" makes you feel so bad a$$. In San Andreas you could not enter a lot of houses except those that had a mission in or a safe house. I think this game was an improvement to the game series and hopefully in Gat 6 we will get everything we want.

Also, it does not make any sense of why rockstar would have you able to enter food joints like burger shot and what not, but you can't enter them in GTA V!! Wtf is this!? And I was expecting more clothe stores than suburban bunco and postboy's I wanted newer stores. I think Tho that the biggest letdown for me was all the things rockstar promised with this game... Like why they would omit the ability to go to a pet store and buy new accessories for chop?! And where is the savanna from San Andreas... I wanted the gang territory's back assuming because yak know Franklin is grove and well I can't seem to understand why they would not put a mini game or side mission to go n take back grove street with Lamar! I wanted to see the ability to use your phone to listen to music like you see Michael doing in a CUT SCENE!!! The bad story line and the unlikable characters destroyed this game. You just don't feel connected to them. Besides that,

GTA is not perfect, but what is? I'd make a few changes to online and that's it. Maybe even better vehicle armor to handle rockets and grenades. Bullet proof glass would have been nice too. More money for consecutive 1st place finishes would have been nice. Rockstar could have also sent out rogue jets or tanks to hunt you, or summoned a gang to get you, or maybe a serial killer or something that's off the grid. Creator is kind of interesting, but a hassle to use.

Vic 2.0 on December 13, 2013:

Wait just one cotton-packing' minute!

You forgot quite a lot.

1. Idk why you like the characters. They're all pathetic and/or despicable, and I struggled so hard to care what happened to them in the story but in the end I just couldn't.

2. As C Johnson pointed out, the combat (whether they were talking about the gunplay or hand to hand and melee) really sucked. Not like Sleeping Dogs raised the bar for them a year ago or anything, either. Sheesh.

3. No jetpack. Seriously.

4. No dating/relationships. Yes, this is a bad thing. It doesn't have to be the annoying obligation that you're constantly being reminded of (We have to admit, they did that wrong in San Andreas), but it should've been an option.

5. They did away with the emergency vehicle missions! No police, firefighter, or ambulance missions at all. This is just unforgiveable.

6. Building on your point about the boring map, they should've at least let us see the casinos of Las Venturas in the new graphics. But noon. In fact, there's no gambling at all (No, the stock market is not the same, but way to suck the excitement out of EVERYTHING, Rockstar).

7. Because the map is so big, it's just a chore to go hunting for collectibles. And of course, when you do find them, don't expect much of a reward for your trouble.

8. I know you said the strip clubs were lame "unless your 12" but really, they are needlessly explicit. Just like the voiceovers you hear if you should happen to hire a prostitute. Back when they started doing this in GTA 3, it was new and humorous for that fact alone. People just couldn't believe you could actually hire a hooker. Now, it seems that Rockstar is just doing it because they're perverts. Who really would complain (except a pervert) if they let that joke die back in 2001? Well at any rate, the voiceovers go way too far.

9. Speaking of going way too far, how about that torture scene? You know, the one where you HAVE to torture an innocent person to progress the story? One of your options is yanking their teeth out. Odd choices, Rockstar... Or was that just another joke, like the softcore porn? Hahahaha, so funny...

GTA V Most Expensive Video Game in History – Budget More than High Budget Hollywood Films

By Usman Pirzada

Sep 8, 2013 22:18 EDT

Thats right, we all knew GTA V was special, this just goes to show how much. GTA V is the single most expensive video game in the history of the same. Its budget is even more then Hollywood Movies, second only to the highest Budget Film ever made. Lets take a look at them.

GTA V Most Expensive Video Game Vs. AAA Games

Lets begin by quoting the Budget of GTA V. This is a figure that is not readily available so we will take a quote from the most authentic source we could find, according to which its 265 Million Dollars. From there on it is an easy matter to compare the budget of GTA V to those of the rest of the game Industry.

We can see that GTA V is in a league of its own with the only game anywhere near it GTA IV with a budget of 100 Million Dollars. Top AA Titles like Crysis 3, Halo 3, Gran Turismo 5, and Final Fantasy Series have budget of around 60 - 85 Million Dollars. The Cheapest is the cost of one Half Life Episode - 12 Million Dollars. The Average Game Budget is supposed to be 24 Million Dollar. So GTA V Most Expensive game in video game history? Definitely. You could have 20 Half Life Episodes in GTA V's Budget.

GTA V Most Expensive Video Game Vs. High Budget Hollywood Films

If you are thinking it would be unfair to compare a Games budget to a High End Movie Budget you couldn't be more wrong. In fact if GTA V would have been a movie it would be the Second Highest Budgeted Film in the History of Film. Thats right GTA V Most Expensive Video Game beats every Hollywood budget ever set with the exception of Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
As you can clearly see no High Budget Film has a higher budget then GTA V. Yes, Not Even Avatar. The only exception to the rule being Pirates. The folks over at Rockstar games put a pretty big investment in GTA V to say the least making GTA V the single Most Expensive Video Game in Gaming History. And the thing is the are probably going to get repaid multifold.

#GTAV is the Single Most Expensive Video Game in History of Gaming. GTA V's Budget is even more then Hollywood Films. http://t.co/puzb4Bz4vz

A Brief History Of Mudding (And Why FiveM Is So Popular)

Thursday 16th September 2021 by Mark Byrne

What is FiveM? How did FiveM get more players than Rockstar's GTA Online on Steam? We take a look back at FiveM's humble beginnings and its future.

Grand Theft Auto 5 mod, FiveM, has officially become the most popular GTA V mod and now has more players than Rockstar’s own GTA V Online on Steam. But how did this happen, and why?

If we look at the history of GTA V online mods, there really wasn’t much going on in the early days other than some improvements to the look & feel of the game. FiveM’s mission from the beginning was huge and was an undertaking that would be – much like other mod teams lot in life – unpaid. In this article we’ll look at the early days, the adoption of mods by mainstream players, and figure out how FiveM managed to beat Rockstar at their own game. Literally.

PC Game Mudding – A Brief History

It really is no surprise when a blockbuster PC game launches that all eyes turn to madders. There’s a fair amount of attention on mods now, too. As an example, when dedicated madders, Arth moor, released their Unofficial Patch for Skyrim on Nexus Mods on 11/11/11 (the actual release date of Skyrim), within two years it had been downloaded 1.8 million times. This just goes to show how popular mudding is for top titles, and the eagerly awaiting fans who clamor for the latest graphics tweak, map, or character customization these intrepid coders create.

It’s not all plain sailing for madders, however, as Arth moor experienced back in August 2021, in response to Nexus Mods 'plans to stop madders from deleting their files, Arth moor wrote “Due to the recent policy changes Nexus has instituted, I have put in the request for deletion of most of my files here”

“TL;DR: It is our core belief that making mudding easier is a noble goal, so more people can enjoy our joint hobby. We are convinced that our collections system, a project we have spent almost 2 years and many work-hours on, is the way to achieve this goal. For the benefit of this system we have to implement a change to how mod file deletions work. The change was announced to mod authors recently, and basically means that mod files are no longer deleted, but rather archived - which will make them inaccessible unless directly requested e.g. via the API. We understand that not everyone in the mod author community shares our convictions and our vision, and that is why we are granting a 1 month grace period in which mod authors can request to have all their files deleted for good by contacting support@nexusmods.com.”

Nexus Mods’ thinking was that this policy change would prevent dependent mods from breaking if ever a parent mod was deleted. It was not met with much approval.

If we’re going to look at the history of madding, then it would be fair to say that in the early days, madders had it pretty hard. A lot of the work was actual coding, and you’d need a lot of experience in programming. Very quickly, though, it seemed anyone who knew about the architecture of a game’s files could change textures and assets pretty simply, just by copying and replacing some of the images.

The First PC Game Mod

The first mod is pretty difficult to pinpoint, but if we allow Apple into the equation, then that would be the mod entitled “Castle Morgenstein”. A parody mod in the early 1980s for the game Castle Wolfenstein which replaced enemy Nazi soldiers with – you guessed it – Smurfs. Silas Warner, one of the first hires on the Muse Software development team for Castle Wolfenstein, had already dabbled with mudding on a game for the Commodore 64 with Dino Eggs, where he also decided to add some Smurfs. When he turned his attention to mudding Castle Wolfenstein (which went on to inspire the smash hit game Wolfenstein 3D) he started by inserting his own hero - Surrebutter Bob – and proceeded to change all of the textures for Nazi enemies into the titular little blue cartoon characters.

“Castle Wolfenstein was a terribly fun and addicting game, but something was missing,” said Warner on the official Castle Morgenstein webpage. “Nazis just didn’t seem that threatening to a suburban high-school kid in the early ’80s. Smurfs. That was the real threat now."

A simple change like this opened up the possibilities and the opportunity for maximum creativity for molders, though, so even though it was a parody, it actually benefited the mudding scene immensely. Modifications for titles were coming thick and fast throughout the eighties, when mudding was called “cracking” (so named due to the act of cracking open a game’s source code). Fans of video games also had something else – a bonus, if you will – to look forward to when they handed over their pocket money or wages for a new game.

Enter The Doom Mods

As coincidental as it may sound, I had not played Doom until I heard about the mods that people were bringing out for it. I remember being told that not only was Doom an awesome game, but the proliferation of mods made it ten times better. I immediately wanted to play it. Herein lies the crossover that mudding has allowed for gamers.

id Software, hot off the heels of their first hit, Wolfenstein 3D, saw that madders were now part of the culture of gaming – albeit a subculture in the early nineties – and embraced the idea that mudding was not all about copyright infringement and intellectual property theft. Mudding – or cracking – was about creativity.

Initially, id founders Tom Hall and John Carmack decided to work with the community of madders who genuinely loved their games, in that they released a WAD file for their consumption. This WAD file – now known as an SDK or Software Development Kit - contained all of Doom’s textures, sprites and maps, and was met with a flurry of activity instantly.

Crackers became madders, thanks to Doom – or rather thanks to id Software. The WAD file meant there was no need to crack open a game, because the developers were handing the game’s guts on a plate. Everything changed with Doom.

“The ability to go several steps further and release actual source code, make it easy to modify things, to let future generations get what I wished I had had a decade earlier - I think that’s been a really good thing” said Carmack in an interview with Wired, who spoke about Doom on its 20th anniversary.

Some of the suits at id Software were none too happy with the mudding scene, however. Mods like Doune were making a lot of money as CDROMs changed hands at boot sales and flea markets around the world. Still, Carmack wanted to stay true to his roots and offer madders the opportunities he wished he’d had. Taking it even further, Carmack and his team included two of the more popular fan-made missions in the 1996 Final Doom retail release.

“To this day I run into people all the time that say, whether it was Doom, or maybe even more so Quake later on, that that openness and that ability to get into the guts of things was what got them into the industry or into technology. A lot of people who are really significant people in significant places still have good things to say about that.”

Best of the rest

Later in our mudding timeline, we had the pleasure of playing the mods of Quake, Morro wind, and, of course, Skyrim. A worthy mention is of course Half-Life 2, which spawned such mods as Neo Tokyo, which turned the FPS into a tactical multiplayer game. This kind of mudding widened the envelope in terms of what could be achieved with dedicated professionals at the helm. The concept of turning a hugely popular game into a completely new experience had to be the future of mudding and was the catalyst for many more to come.

Garry’s Mod, which just celebrated over 20 million sales on Steam, is over 15 years old, and players continue to find new ways to use this amazing sandbox, which is built on Valve’s Source engine. With the ability to create any construct that you can imagine (cars, bikes, helicopters etc. etc.), and then implement them in game style of your choice, Garry’s Mod basically created a new envelope and never looked back. From massive hits like Prop Hunt to RP Asheville, Garry’s Mod has constantly attracted the gamer who wants more from a game than what developers think they want.

FiveM – How It All Went Right (And Wrong)

Moving swiftly on to the object of our affection in this article, FiveM, we can see the progression from molders using command line editing right up to having source code and SDKs provided, and usually – developers assisting molders in making great games even better.

As it stands, Five have over 250,000 concurrent players on Steam, and they are beating Rockstar’s original game by a chunk.

When Epic gave GTA V away for free, the game saw a significant and record-setting boost in players, but are still way behind with around 188,000 concurrent players in the last 30 days as this article was published.

Five is no different from Doom in a sense. Except Rockstar do not approve of the Five modifications whatsoever. What makes them similar, however, is the fact that GTA V and GTA:O (GTA Online) are behemoths in the gaming world just as Doom was. Although Rockstar do not prevent you from using Five they don’t give you their blessing, either.

FiveM’s website tells us “FiveM does not interact with the Rockstar Online Services other than to validate your game copy the first time you launch it. This validation emulates the game's interaction, and can not be detected by Rockstar. FiveM also doesn't modify your game files at all, even when downloading server assets, so you don't have to do anything to switch between FiveM and GTA:O.”

Whereas Rockstar tells us “The FiveM project is an unauthorized alternate multiplayer service that contains code designed to facilitate piracy [..] Our policy on such violations of our terms of service are clear, and the individuals involved in its creation have had their Social Club accounts suspended.”

Now, let’s be clear: Just because you haven’t been caught, that does not mean to say you’re not doing anything wrong. So, yes, you use FiveM at your own risk.

With all that said, it’s a good job FiveM came along.

Not only did the FiveM developers do a great job on making cosmetic and gameplay changes to GTA Online, but they also managed to fix a lot of the issues players were having. For one thing, FiveM loads fast than vanilla GTA:O. Another benefit of FiveM over GTA:O is that players are actually banned quickly on servers if they are doing anything they shouldn’t. Can you imagine playing GTA Online and having a griefer banned within a few minutes?

Why FiveM Is Better Than GTA Online

Bold statement, right? Well it is not just the opinion of this author, but also the opinion of millions of people who have jumped on a roleplay server of their choice, and slipped into a pleasurable game coma for a few hours. There’s just no competition, in the fans’ eyes.

Here’s the main reasons you’ll want to check FiveM out if you love GTA:

Big Servers And Big Player Counts

One of the main reasons we all play GTA Online is the number of players you get to fight, shoot, chase and otherwise engage with. The issue most players have, however, is that just because there are thirty players in a game, that doesn’t mean you are actually playing against that many people. Most of the players in GTA Online will be grinding their way to their next purchase, and busy carrying out missions to earn RP and cash. This often means there are only a handful of people actually there to engage with.

FiveM is roleplay. That means you will be able to engage with everyone in the server. Everyone is there to have a good time and play their part in whatever the server is set up for. If it’s cops and robbers, then pick a side and strap in. If it’s delivering milk on a daily round, then fill your boots. Interact with people and have a blast. Most people have a “job” in the server, and there’s lots of stuff you can be or do - so you can choose your role, and play it.

FiveM: A New Experience Every Time (But Not Always A Good One)

There’s nothing worse than grinding. We all hate it, and it gets tiresome. FiveM will not allow this to happen however, because unlike Rockstar’s business model, the developers have actually made grinding a fun exercise.

Yes, you do need to grind in FiveM, too. You often start with nothing and you work your way up. But it’s how you do that with FiveM that gives it a bit of charm over GTA:O. The server rules are determined by the owners, so they will have set ways to earn money (and lose it).

The trick is to find a whitelisted server, which tends to be of better quality than the 95% of the other servers that have been started as a hobby and not really fleshed out in a meaningful way. A good place to start is Reddit, as always. The FiveM subreddit is packed with good advice and lists servers where you can get your roleplay on.

FiveM Subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/FiveM/

If you have a particular roleplay in mind, you can ask around on Reddit or on the many forums out there that support the mod. You can also find out what you start with and how to rank up fast by doing jobs.

FiveM Is About Community

As you’d expect, because FiveM was community driven in the beginning, starting out with just one developer – Antiauthority – around 2015. Antiauthority, who is sadly no stranger to the illegal side of madding, infamously wrote on Reddit:

“So I just got a pair of PIs at my door claiming to be sent by Take Two, handing me a phone with a person somewhere in the UK or US or whatever to ‘discuss how to cease my activities with regard to Grand Theft Auto’, that ‘they know what happened before with Activision and want to not get the lawyers involved at this time’, however they ‘have tested their legal standing already and are quite certain of their point’ and ‘aren’t willing to accept any solution other than ceasing my activities’. Oh, they also ‘couldn’t disclose any conversations they’re having with other modification developers’, didn’t want to talk about general modification policy as ‘it was just about my case’ and admitted they ‘looked through my source code’.”

Eventually the ranks swelled with FiveM, and other madders have accolades in the gaming world for their services. The current FiveM project began with a merger between Five Reborn and a new development group called the Citizen Collective. FiveM is not just for roleplay, however, as its origins are in being a “multiplayer mod” – but the roleplay is by far the most popular aspect of the mod. FiveM is a mod for GTA V which allows you to play multiplayer on customized and dedicated servers and is powered by Cfx.re and relying on the RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine).

With all of these bodies around the mod, the feeling of community and inclusion is passed on to the players, and many communities have sprung up for regular FiveM roleplay gamers: -

FiveM Lets You Become A Modder – Fast

Although some might view this as being the most important aspect, it’s not for everyone. If you so desired, you could be up and running with your own FiveM server in a few minutes. Your rules. Your missions. Your cars. Your guns. GTA becomes a sandbox, and you can get as creative (or vanilla) as you like.

Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture
About Us

The past and the present, theory and practice have been the cornerstones and frame of reference for the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta) since it was founded in 1967. The task of the institute is to address architecture in all its historical depth and ideological breadth, and to systematically reflect upon it. In addition to positing and verifying facts, the gta Institute has always endeavored to examine the efficacy and aptitude of the models it applies and to reap their benefits for contemporary architecture. At the institute, the topics of research and teaching are the historiography of architecture, the forms and techniques of construction, the functions of architecture and its relationship to society and politics, the development of design and architectonic discourse from earliest times to the present day, and methods of architectural-historical study, from building analysis through to the digital humanities.

The gta Institute plays a mediating role in the Department of Architecture (D-ARCH) inasmuch as it serves the increasingly specialized fields of architectural knowledge as a central hub. Thus, it is broadly represented in the D-ARCH curriculum – from knowledge-oriented lectures at Bachelor’s and Master’s degree level, to specialized lectures or seminars, to integrated design courses. The institute’s doctoral programmed assumes a pivotal position in honing the skills of the next generation of scholars at the interface of research and teaching. The continuing education programmer of the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) provides a bridge between the practical and academic-research field.

The gta Institute fulfils further tasks closely interlinked with its academic commitments. The gta Archives holds nationally and internationally important modern architecture bequests, including numerous bequests from renowned architects and urban planners. The gta Verlag publishes books on the history and theory of architecture, urban and regional planning, landscape architecture and historical preservation. The gta Exhibitions works continually to build a strong public profile for the research undertaken in the D-ARCH. The gta Digital develops state-of-the-art research environments to pool scientific expertise and thus improve global access to highly specialized data. The four gta divisions showcase the department’s work to the public.

Since its foundation, directors of the gta have included Adolf Max Vogt, Bernhard Hoesli, Heinz Ronner, Werner Oechsle, Kurt W. Forster, Andreas Townsman, Vittorio Magnago Lampugnano and Laurent Stalder.

Current director of the gta Institute since 1 July 2021 is Tom Avermaet.

Grand Theft Auto V Is the Highest-Grossing Entertainment Release Ever — In the History of Mankind

Grand Theft Auto V is the single best-selling release — in the history of entertainment, ever.

Grand Theft Auto V has now raked in more revenues than any other form of media in history. This encompasses all forms of entertainment, including books, concerts, albums, games, and films. And the game, released back in 2013, is still making Rockstar Games money.

How much money? After selling more than 90 million units, GTA V boasts more than $6 billion in revenue, according to Doug Creutz, an analyst at Cowen. It was the first update to the Grand Theft Auto series since 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV.

“Since its launch in 2013, GTA V has sold 90 million units, putting its total haul for publisher Take-Two Interactive in the neighborhood of $6 billion,” Doug Creutz, an analyst for Cowen told MarketWatch.

And the pent-up demand was huge upon its release. Almost instantly, the video game became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history. By its the third day of its release, GTA V grossed more than $1 billion in sales.

According to Creutz, “the game has made more than blockbuster movies like Star Wars and Gone with The Wind, which both brought in around $3 billion in theaters when adjusted for inflation.” Creutz also estimates that even with home entertainment sales, which he puts in the ballpark of $1 billion, those films don’t come close to Rockstar’s title.

Even Avatar, which grossed $2.8 billion, doesn’t even come close.

And GTA V is also eclipsing all earlier GTA releases. By comparison, the next best-selling release Grand Theft Auto release is GTA San Andreas, which shifted 27.5 million units.

Aside from the money, Grand Theft Auto V is also considered to be one of the best video games of all time.

Indeed, this is more than just a game, and somehow outdoes an already-incredible GTA IV. Upon its release, the reviews and accolades were incredibly strong. “Grand Theft Auto V is also an intelligent, wickedly comic, and bitingly relevant commentary on contemporary, post-economic crisis America,” one IGN review raved.

“Everything about it drips satire: it rips into the Millennial generation, celebrities, the far right, the far left, the middle class, the media.”

GTA V is actually most popular on PlayStation 3, and PC users contribute just 2.1% to total sales — but have contributed a lot of great mods.

And GTA VI? Apparently, it’s still years away, with few clues on the city or setting.
